Saul Schottenstein Foundation B Contributes $25,000 to Adventure Rabbi: Synagogue Without Walls

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Saul Schottenstein Foundation B
Contributes $25,000 to Adventure Rabbi: Synagogue Without Walls

CINCINNATI, OH, July 21, 2010 – Saul Schottenstein Foundation B has contributed $25,000 to the Adventure Rabbi: Synagogue Without Walls, Boulder, Colorado, in support of the organization’s programs to promote Judaism. Specifically, the contribution will be used in part to bring selected rabbis from across the US for training in Rabbi Korngold’s methods for successful outreach to unaffiliated Jews. Part of the grant will be to bring Rabbi Korngold to Cincinnati, and the remainder will be used for scholarships for Jewish participants.

According to Rabbi Korngold, “Our goal is to dramatically broaden access to Judaism by making it relevant and meaningful to our modern lives. We provide a model that can engage the 70% of the Jews in America who are not affiliated with a synagogue, as well as augment the experiences of those who are affiliated with traditional synagogues. This grant helps spread our innovative approach by helping us train other rabbis. While many Jews consider Jewish practices obsolete, expensive and unrelated to their modern lives, we provide a unique approach that draws people back into Jewish practice and community.”

Rabbi Korngold is the spiritual leader of the innovative Adventure Rabbi program, based in Boulder, Colorado. Major programs include Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Passover retreats, as well as hikes in the summer and services on skis in the winter. Korngold is the author of God in the Wilderness (Doubleday, 2008) and the forthcoming book, God Envy: A Rabbi’s Confession (Jewish Lights Press, 2011). Rabbi Korngold received her ordination from Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1999, and is an accomplished ultra-marathon running and nationally-ranked skier.
